Job Summary:
This individual will assist in preparing and processing purchase orders while maintaining purchasing records. The candidate will interact with suppliers and internal stakeholders to obtain availability needs, pricing, and product specifications. Maintaining relationships and building partnerships with key suppliers is essential. The ability to organize, interpret, and draw conclusions through data analysis is necessary to be successful in this role. Working across functional groups within the organization effectively is an important skill for a Buyer.
Essential Job Requirements:
- Provides administrative and clerical needs of the position
- Communicates early and often with internal operations and external suppliers
- Works collaboratively in a team environment
- Preparation of reports, purchase orders, memoranda, and other documents
- Research on suppliers and pricing, specifications, and other data related to goods and services
- Negotiates delivery and cost with suppliers
- Interprets and maintains performance metrics for responsible commodities and suppliers
- Performs other duties as assigned
Preferred Skills:
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
- Ability to learn purchasing procedures and policies
- Experience with MRP/ERP
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
- Excellent written and verbal skills
- Analytic approach to problem solving
- Results-driven
- Able to balance strategic and tactical tasks
Qualifications and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent required with post-secondary education in Supply Chain highly encouraged. At least two years of purchasing in a manufacturing environment preferred. Strong communication skills, ability to effectively communicate with both employees and management, strong leadership skills and professionalism.
